Move Files with Cut and Paste

Coming from Windows, it really frustrated me a lot when I was not able to use cut and paste command with the keyboard. Cmd+C works for copying but there’s no Cmd+X for performing the Cut Action. If you are a Mac user who doesn’t know what the Cut Action is, let me explain it to you. While using the Cmd+C or the Copy Action can help you copy files from one place to another, the cut Action allows you to do the same thing with one major difference. The difference is that the Copy Action keeps the original file or text in place and creates a duplicate of that file whereas, the cut Action moves the original file and doesn’t create a duplicate. To perform the Cut Action on a Mac, first, copy the file using ⌘C (Cmd+C) combo. Now open the location where you want to paste the file and hit ⌘⌥V (Cmd+Opt+V) instead of ⌘V (Cmd+V). Performing the Cut Action: Copy (Cmd+C) → Paste (Cmd+Option+V)

New Keyboard Shortcuts

Edit your name to appear in more Search Results

If you’re a brand nobody knows about (yet), with engagement too low to guarantee your content getting recommended or appearing in the Top Hashtags results, how can your new followers find you? Through typing the keywords in the Search bar. To be found this way, you need to spruce up your Instagram bio by adding a target keyword to your name, like like the vegan influencer @aniahimsa does, by having “vegan” feature in her bio. This is, in fact, exactly how I found this particular influencer account – simply by typing “vegan” in the Instagram search: So, if you’re a sportswear brand, jewellery brand, any other brand – add that keyword to your bio! It’s one of the easiest, and yet also best-working, Instagram tips for growth out there.

Polls and Quiz Mode

If you love Twitter polls, well, now you can get the same feature on Telegram Groups as well. You can create both anonymous and visible polls and also schedule them accordingly. Other than that, there is also a Quiz Mode which allows you to see who voted for what. And the best part is that you can set up quizzes with multiple answers. So, if you run a Telegram group, this is the best way to settle scores with your friends and family. To create polls, simply tap on the “attachment” icon and select the “Polls” menu. And for Quizzes, you can go through Telegram’s guide over here.

Share Live Location

Just like WhatsApp, Telegram also allows you to share live location with your contacts. This is a very handy feature that I personally use on a regular basis. To share your live location with someone, first open the chat and tap on the attachment button. Now, tap on location. Here you will get the option to share either your current location or your live location. Select the live location option and then select the time limit for which your location will be shared with the person. Now, all you need to do is hit that share button to share your live location.

How to Create a GoPro Driving Timelapse

I’m a pretty big fan of time lapse video. Just a few months before we moved back to Canada from Ecuador, I shot a driving time lapse video in Cuenca. Here are the settings I used to compress 2 hours into 7.5 minutes.

  • Camera settings: I shot one image per second (60 images / minute) at 5MP resolution.
  • Choose a great location: We were first to board the bus and chose the front seats on the upper level of the double-decker bus. I mounted the camera on the front of the bus, centered horizontally. I aimed the camera straight ahead, with a slight downward angle. Because it was on the front of the bus, there were no distracting people walking by.
  • Gear Used: GoPro Hero3 Silver mounted on a Pedco Ultra Clamp. I used two batteries (Wasabi) during this shoot. The first lasted about 80 minutes. The second finished out the final 30 minutes of the tour.
  • Mount the camera securely: To keep the camera steady, I rely on my Ultra Clamp mount. Read my Ultra Clamp review.
  • Watch the battery: Don’t worry about sticking your head into the occasional image. It’s better to delete a few images than run out of battery and not realize it. It is easy to remove a few spoiled images – and it won’t affect the final product at all. I changed the battery while the bus stopped at a look-off point over the city. Watch on YouTube See the full post with all my specs.

Use Tab Groups in Safari

Are you someone dealing with dozens of tabs in the Safari browser? If so, you will surely appreciate Tab Groups in Safari. Tab Groups let you create different tab groups in the Safari browser based on relevance. For example, you can create a Tab Group for Social and add all your social tabs. Create multiple tab groups and clear the tabs mess from Safari.

Remove Home Screen Pages

With iOS 14, Apple offered an option to hide home screen pages. iOS 15 takes it a step ahead and allows users to remove home screen pages completely in the app. Long press on empty screen on the home screen and select dot menu above the Dock. First, disable the home screen page that you want to hide and tap on the ‘–‘ icon at the upper left corner to remove the home screen page.

Trash Files in Seconds

This is a simple Mac tip that can save you time. When you have to delete an item on your Mac, you usually either drag it to the Trash in your dock or right-click on the file and select the “Move to Trash” option. Well, there’s a keyboard shortcut which can save you the trouble of doing these things. To easily trash a file, just click on it and then hit the “⌘+Delete” keyboard shortcut and it will move to Trash. If you want to skip trashing a file and permanently delete it, use the “⌘+⌥+Delete” keyboard shortcut. Remember, this will permanently delete a file and you will not be able to recover it.

Create Timestamp for Videos

Just like we can share videos with a pre-defined timestamp of YouTube videos, we can do the same thing on Telegram as well. For example, if you are sending a long video and want the user to play it from a specific timestamp say, 1:20, you can just type check the reaction at 1:20 in the video caption. Now when the user taps on the highlighted 1:20 link, the video plays from that particular timestamp. This is a helpful tip for users who send videos on Telegram regularly.
